Detection and control of bacterial contaminants of plant tissue cultures. A review of recent literature

چکیده
Preventing or avoiding microbial contamination of plant tissue cultures is critical to successful micropropagation. Epiphytic aIKI endophytic organisms can cause severe losses to micropropagated plants at each stage of growth (Cassells. 1991; Debergh arxi Vanderschaeghe. 1988; Leifert eot at. 1991). Bacterial contaminants are often diffiCult to detect because they remain mostly within the plant tissue (D:ebergh and Vanderschaeghe. 1988; De Fossard and De Fossard. 1988; Viss eot al.. 1991). COntaminated plants may have no visible symptoms. reduced multiplication and rooting rates. or may die (Leifert et ai., 1989; 1992). Introduction of microorganisms due to poor aseptic technique or improperly sterilized equipment can be COITttted with improvements in training or equipment handling. but eliminating internal contaminants is more problematic (Buckley et al.. 1995). -

Detection of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis in the mesenteric lymph nodes of goats by PCR and culture
The efficacy of bacterial cultures and IS900-specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was compared for the detection of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP) from the mesenteric lymph nodes of goats. Samples were collected from 75 goats slaughtered in Ilam, in southwest of Iran. Tissue homogenates were inoculated onto four media. The genomic DNA was extracted directly from mesenteri...
متن کاملAntimalarial natural products: a review
Objective: Malaria is an infectious disease commonplace in tropical countries. For many years, major antimalarial drugs consisted of natural products, but since 1930s these drugs have been largely replaced with a series of synthetic drugs. This article tries to briefly indicate that some plants which previously were used to treat malaria, as a result of deficiencies of synthetic drugs, have rev...
متن کاملRare Earth Elements as Emerging Contaminants and Applications, Occurrence, Sources, and Environmental and Human Health Risks Caused by Them: A Review Study
Background and Objectives: Rare earth elements (REEs) are examples of emerging contaminants that have recently been increasingly spread to the environment through the extensive use in modern commodities, medical facilities, petroleum refining, mining, chemical fertilizers, electronic wastes and recycling plants. However, these elements are considered due to their potential human and ecological ...
متن کاملA review on enhancement techniques of electrokinetic soil remediation
During the last decade, the expansion of urbanization and industrial activities caused serious environmental problems such as soil pollution. Novel technologies are required to remediate soil contamination with toxic contaminants, including heavy metals and organic pollutants. In recent years, there have been increasing attempts to improve soil remediation efficiency. Electrokinetic (EK) is an ...
متن کاملContamination in Plant Tissue Cultures1
In recent years, the possibility of developing numerous plantlets of many plant species in vitro has been realized. Termed plant tissue culture, this method of plant propagation has not been without problems when employed in commercial practice. One problem of major consequence has been bacterial contamination, usually becoming evident during later stages of tissue culture increase and multipli...
